World industrial design gurus believe that Russia needs to improve the quality of industrial designers training, so that they become globally competitive.
Thus, during a press conference: “Transport design in Russia. The role of industrial design in increasing competitiveness of Russian products on international markets”, held in the Press Centre of INNOPROM International Industrial Trade Fair, the Vice-President of Groupe Renault Design Programmes, Mr. Anthony Grade said that the future of the Russian specialists of industrial design should be of international level.
“You need to change the situation in schools, students must be of international level, and then they will get a good job. We need to support good youth. We need to move the industry to give these people opportunities to develop their talent. Education is very important, and we must help,” Mr. Anthony Grade said.
The Chief designer of AvtoVAZ, Mr. Steve Mattin said in his turn that one of the problems in Russia lies in the lack of work with students.
“One of the problems in Russia is that it does not work with students. We work with universities as much as possible and we should help them to develop the students. Seeing that you have no human resources around, something has to be changed within the company,” Mr. Steve Mattin said.
According to the Head of industrial design department of Giugiaro Design (Italy), Mr. Nikola Guelfo, Russia cannot completely rely on foreign designers, it is also necessary to prepare own personnel.
“You can rely on your partner from France, Germany or England, but it is very important to have domestic designers who would speak with you in one language. It is very important, it is the basis, it is the key to industrial design. There shall be a good dialogue between foreign partners, foreign designers and the company inside the Russian company,” Mr. Nikola Guelfo said.
He was fully supported by the Managing partner of Yellow Window (France-Belgium), Mrs. Patricia Bastard.
“Yes. I absolutely agree with this. Because design is associated with the culture,” Mrs. Bastard said.
She noted that “it is very important for the international company to have a local designer, who understands the culture of the country”.
“Our exceptional way, which we are looking for, is very often dead-locked, so I agree with my colleagues that it is necessary to seek solutions, cooperation of smart solutions, including foreign participation,” - the Head of CARDI SKB “MAMI”, Mr. Sergey Alyshev said in his turn.
