At the international conference “New industrial environment: New industries, New vectors of development” held in Moscow on 17 March 2014, the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade first announced the foundation of Strategic Council on investments in new industries, which will hold its first meeting during INNOPROM.
Rossiyskaya Gazeta published its report on the Council with commentary from the Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov and the Head of the Russian Technology Agency at the Ministry, Nikolai Kuteyev.
The Ministry established the Strategic Council on investments in new industries, aimed at development of new sectors of industry. The Chairman of the Board is the Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation Denis Manturov.
“Over a long period, we have been supporting industries that were formed back in Soviet times. These are aviation, electronics, microsurgery and a number of other fields. We try to utilize the potential of enterprises from Soviet times to their maximum potential. But the world is not standing still: it continues to develop and new areas of industry develop with it. We have set the goal to choose new directions and support them,” said the Council Chairman, Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov.
Among the goals set before the Strategic Council are preparing proposals for federal authorities aimed at increasing the investment attractiveness of new industries, initiating new legal acts that overcome the existing problems and barriers for the development of new industrial sectors, as well as annually approving the list of priority areas in its activities based on the priorities of Russian Federal industrial policy.
“The Strategic Council on investments in new industries must become an effective tool in the development of robotics, automation and new materials. The first meeting will be held on 10 July at INNOPROM,” reported Denis Manturov, Russia’s Minister of Industry and Trade at the international conference “New industrial environment” on 17 March 2014.
“The Strategic Council on investments in new industries under the Ministry of Industry and Trade is a mechanism for harmonizing federal industrial policy with the challenges and opportunities arising in the new technology markets. I’m referring to markets that have left their mark on most sectors in the global economy, and which in the nearest future will fundamentally change the structure of technology in the world. This relates to markets of new materials, robotics, biotech and laser technology,” Nikolai Kuteyev, head of the Russian Technology Agency.
Members of the Strategic Council will include heads of Russian and international industrial companies, representatives of investment groups, venture funds, including direct investment funds and the family offices of major entrepreneurs, as well as development institutes.
The first meeting of the Council will be in July in Yekaterinburg, as part of the business programme of Russia’s main industrial trade fair INNOPROM.
