UrFU and Ural enterprises agreed to create a Model Factory of Lean Production at INNOPROM-2015

10 July 2015
Ural Federal University, Uralmashplant, JSC and Uralhimmash, OAO signed a trilateral agreement on cooperation on July 10 in the Press centre of INNOPROM-2015 International Industrial Trade Fair. It involves the interaction of the parties on the training of staff and the joint implementation of projects on operational transformations of production associated with the development of Lean Production.

The document was signed by the rector of the Ural Federal University, Mr. Victor A. Koksharov, General Director of Uralmashplant, JSC, Mr. Alexander Sharapov and CEO of Uralhimmash, OAO, Mr. Sergey Gavrikov.
One of the key projects will be the first Russian Model Factory of Lean Production, which will be located at the University. Production of pneumatic cylinders, most closely approximate to the real one, will be simulated on a new training platform. According to future participants of the project, application training will convey the skills and techniques of lean production to maximum effect, knowledge of which will help the employees to improve the efficiency of production and management processes.  In total the project will cost more than 150 million roubles: about 50 of them will be allocated the Ural Federal University.
“The Production chain will be built in such a way which will cardinally reduce time and material costs, in some cases up to 70%. It will be the process of on-the-job training. This is the first factory of lean production, which will be popular not only in Russia but also in the former Soviet Union. The training will be available not only for the managers of industrial enterprises, companies in the Urals, Russia and the near abroad, but for our students, especially students of the Institute of Mechanics and Machine Building. Today the “coaching stuff” is already prepared, and so called “authors” - people who will actually work on the machines - are in the stage of training” - the UrFU Rector, Mr. Victor Koksharov said.
The main feature of learning in the Model Factory will be an experimental environment where the experts will be able to see the results of introduction transformations in real time operation. To improve the quality of training at the factory, the entire production cycle, from metal processing to assembly of the finished product will be simulated. According to some reports, the production process will also involve students-actors who will play the role of real workers of the company.
"It's one thing to say, how to behave and how to act, another - to carry out this in practice, with examples, without any loss in production. Therefore, this is a very interesting and important project with relation to the plant. We hope that the platform will constantly help us in practical work on the production”, - the General Director of the plant, Mr. Sharapov.
The Model Factory construction has started in June in the area of experimental industrial complex on Sofia Kovalevskaya Street. The construction is scheduled to be completed by November 30, 2015. The factory will be launched in January 2016. There are 15 training platforms like this in the world - in European countries, USA and Singapore.  The developers of the project noted that establishment of such factory is the first Russian experience.
