Vladimir Putin is confident that the Middle Ural will maintain its growth rate

14 July 2011

The Prime Minister Vladimir Putin expressed his confidence that the Governor of the Sverdlovsk Oblast would maintain the high rate of the region’s development.

The Russian Prime Minister told this on July 14 during the video-conference session with the “round table” panels of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives (ASI) which took place during the first day of “Innoprom-2011” forum.

Alexander Misharin has drawn the Prime Minister’s attention to the fact that simultaneously with the opening of the exhibition one of the major infrastructural projects involving the development of the SME cluster (and it was the development of this sector of the economy that was one of the underlying reasons for the ASI establishment) has started in Ekaterinburg – it was the opening of one of the largest in Russia exhibition centers “Ekaterinburg Expo”.

“Following your order we have organized a large strategic discussion on the formulation of the future activity of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives as part of the exhibition and forum “Innoprom-2011”, - said the Governor.

He informed the Prime Minister that the “round table” discussions participants – about 200 authors of projects for the ASI – formulated 6 main problems which hinder the development of the mid size business in Russia. “Now the groups work on designing the model for the Agency’s functioning which will facilitate the adequate solution of these problems”, - explained the Head of the region.

Vladimir Putin mentioned his recent visit to Ekaterinburg, when he made a decision about holding the ASI conference within the “Innoprom” framework. He expressed his appreciation of Ekaterinburg’s readiness for hosting this kind of large scale events.

“Only yesterday night I met the former Governor Edward Rossel. He came to me with his new, also innovative projects. I would like to see the new leadership of the region to maintain the current growth rate of the Sverdlovsk Oblast”, said the Prime Minister.

Anna Belova, a moderator of one of the forum’s panels, informed the audience that the key resolution made by the participants of her “round table” was that the ASI must become a tool for the assessment of the Governors’ efficiency in terms of the development of innovation technologies, and implementation of strategic projects.

ASI must also become the initiator of elimination of the administrative barriers, the developer of the legislative initiatives, must monitor the business climate in the region.

“I sign under every word you said”, responded Vladimir Putin. - The only thing I’d like to emphasize, is that the final decision must be taken by the Expert Council of the Agency, and not by the government.”
